National Youth Day 2009 was celebrated on the 21st March, The First Day of Spring, however the forcast of the day was cloudy, windy and occastional rain, However a group around 90 Courageous people including The Hon. Clyde Puli, Parliamentary secretary for youths, Joined Sedqa and Institute of Tourism Studies organisers, Mr Martin Chechuti and Mr Richard Pons to form the first ever human chain in the sea record, with the help of local diving schools which provided wet suits to all participants, and under the watchful eyes of the Malta Civil Protection and the St John's Rescue Corps. Mr Frans Attard Author of the Malta Book of Records and first was the official Judge/witness of this event, which gave the signal and also verified the record attempt.
ITS students prepared and provided hot beverages and warm rice to all participants.
The event which was a successful one was then followed up by a variety of events at Bay Street with the collaboration and organisation of Ms Sandra Vella .
